Meet Ghanshyam – our field officer in Mathura. He is a resident of a village near Vrindavan and has a master’s in sociology. If you ask Ghanshyam what his passion is, the response comes in a heartbeat. “Social Work”, he’ll say. It’s no wonder that FAME (Foundation for Advancement of Micro-Enterprises) feels like a fitting choice for him. Having joined in March 2021, Ghanshyam saw this as an opportunity to learn and find out ways through which he can further aid the dairy farmers, as well as their livestock. His main area of focus is to support dairy farmers by organizing awareness sessions as well as treatment camps for their cattle. This helps the farmers reduce expenditure on healthcare along with improving the production of their dairy business. Additionally, he also networks with the various government establishments of the city to collaborate on development projects that can benefit the farmers.
A TYPICAL DAY IN GHANSHYAM’S LIFE
On a typical day, Ghanshyam sets out on the field to meet the stakeholders of the village where FAME is planning to conduct awareness sessions as well as workshops. Before FAME can carry out any operations, it is vital to converse with these stakeholders to find out about the village, its population, and their concerns. “What’s more”, Ghanshyam says, “this gives us a chance to talk about FAME and about how we can support the dairy farmers of the village.”
Next, Ghanshyam and his team set out to raise awareness amongst the dairy farmers on various topics from problems associated with livestock and treatment options to the role FAME can play in this process. As these farmers are not always able to take their animals to the vet, the vets associated with FAME go door-to-door and conduct free-of-cost check-ups and consultations.
GHANSHYAM’S MOTTO – TEAMWORK IS EVERYTHING!
“My team and I are working tirelessly to jump through any hurdles these dairy farmers might face, especially with treating the animals to get them back in good shape. Quite recently, during the rainy season, the dairy animals got sick and the farmers had no resources to treat them. Our team, with the help of our doctor, got these animals vaccinated free of cost, speeding up the recovery of these animals,” says Ghanshyam.
For Ghanshyam, aiding farmers and their livestock is the aspect of his job he is most passionate about. He believes that using our resources at FAME to raise awareness and treating these animals is quite meaningful and necessary, as many farmers are unable to come up with funds for these treatments. It is due to the motivation of individuals like Ghanshyam that the FAME team is able to reach out to farmers all across India, supporting them in a myriad of ways. Our dedicated team has successfully conducted 140+ sessions, delivered 9500+ man-hours of training, examined 4400+ livestock, and impacted 4300 dairy farmers throughout the nation!
It is our honor to provide these farmers the resources and services that can aid their business, and assist them in achieving their goals. With driven individuals like Ghanshyam at the forefront of the FAME team, we look forward to empowering many more micro-entrepreneurs across the nation.
